FBI Investigating Death of former Colts Owner Jim Irsay
The Indianapolis Colts have acknowledged awareness of an FBI inquiry into the death of former owner Jim Irsay, who passed away in May 2025 at the age of 65.
“We are aware of the investigation, but at this time, we’ve not been contacted by the FBI or been served with any subpoenas,” the Colts stated on Thursday.
This statement follows a report by The Washington Post detailing the federal investigation. The report, based on a reviewed grand jury subpoena, indicates investigators are focusing on Irsay’s history of drug use – both prescribed and illegal – and his relationship with Dr. Harry Haroutunian, a California-based recovery doctor.
Irsay’s official cause of death, as stated on his death certificate, was cardiac arrest resulting from acute pneumonia and underlying heart issues. An autopsy was not conducted.
Dr.Haroutunian, who was managing Irsay’s care at the time of his death in Beverly Hills, California, signed the death certificate. He previously described his relationship with Irsay as deeply caring,stating to The Post last year, “I dedicated 18 months of my life to try to care for him … as a brother. We did everything we could to make him as comfortable as possible.”
