SHERIDAN, Wyo. – Colorado Mesa University’s men’s golf team surged to a tie for first place at the Travis Roy Memorial Invitational after a strong opening round at Powder Horn Golf Club on Monday. The Mavericks share the lead with CSU Pueblo, both teams carding a two-over-par 290.
the tournament, hosted by South Dakota Mines, features 12 teams and 60 individual golfers, including competitors from seven different schools within the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC). Colorado Mesa’s performance sets the stage for a competitive remainder of the invitational, with implications for early-season rankings and momentum within the RMAC. Play continues Tuesday with a 9 A.M. shotgun start.
Leading the Mavericks was junior Dylan Everett, who fired a three-under-par 69 to claim the individual lead. Everett’s round included three birdies and an eagle, with only one hole played over par.
Luke Wagstaff contributed an even-par 72, highlighted by six birdies and an eagle on the 18th hole, placing him in a tie for eighth. Timmy Cavarno followed closely behind with a one-over-par 73, securing a tie for 12th place and totaling five birdies. Leo Lavalle carded a 76, finishing at four-over and tied for 26th.
