“This acquisition is a win for both wildlife and people,” said CPW Director Jeff Davis in a press release.“It will protect critical habitat and provide more opportunities for the public to enjoy the outdoors.”
The newly acquired land includes diverse terrain, including grasslands, shrublands, and riparian areas along the South Platte River. These habitats support a variety of wildlife species, including deer, elk, pronghorn, and numerous bird species. The expansion will also improve connectivity for wildlife movement across the landscape.
Funding for the land acquisition came from the Colorado Parks and Wildlife cash fund, which is supported by revenue from hunting and fishing licenses, and also park entrance fees. CPW is currently developing a management plan for the expanded park area, which will include public input opportunities. Denver Post
