Colo Colo Player Leandro Hernández Detained After Driving Under Influence

Colo player Leandro Hernández drove while intoxicated with 1.2 grams of alcohol per liter of blood and ran a red light early Sunday morning, colliding with another vehicle in Providencia.

The crash happened around 5:00 a.m. at the intersection of Los Leones and Pocuro avenues. Hernández was driving south on Los Leones when he failed to stop for a red light and struck a driver traveling east on Pocuro who had a green light.

Lieutenant Francisco Cabezas Andrade, head of the Providencia Sur Sub-commissioner’s office, stated that the athlete marked 1.2 grams of alcohol per liter of blood on the breathalyzer test. “A driver who was driving under the influence of alcohol, specifically with 1.2 grams of alcohol in the blood, and who at this moment, as I pointed out, is detained inside the sub-commissioner’s office,” Cabezas Andrade said.

Police held Hernández inside the sub-commissioner’s office before transferring him to Hospital del Salvador for a blood alcohol test. He remained in custody pending a formal hearing scheduled for Sunday afternoon at the Justice Center.

Prosecutor Andrea Contreras stated that the other driver involved was transported by the SAMU emergency service to Hospital del Salvador and was out of life-threatening danger. Hernández did not travel to Chillán with the Colo squad for Sunday’s match against Ñublense because he is recovering from a sprain.
