‘College gameday’ Heads to Norman for Michigan-Oklahoma Showdown
NORMAN, OK – ESPN’s flagship college football pregame show, ’College GameDay,’ will be live from Owen Field in Norman, Oklahoma, on Saturday, September 7, 2024, as the No. 2 Michigan Wolverines face off against the Oklahoma Sooners in a highly anticipated early-season clash. This marks the second all-time meeting between two of college football’s most storied programs.
The matchup carries meaningful weight as both Michigan and Oklahoma aim to rebound from disappointing 2024 seasons. Oklahoma finished with a 6-7 record, their worst as 2000, while Michigan posted an 8-5 mark following a perfect 15-0 campaign and national championship victory in 2023. The game also features new starting quarterbacks for both teams: bryce Underwood for Michigan and John Mateer for oklahoma.
Both programs boast notable football legacies. Michigan and Oklahoma rank among the six winningest programs in college football history, with each having secured at least 950 victories. They also consistently perform well against ranked opponents, both residing in the top five for wins in AP-ranked matchups.
This will be Oklahoma’s 42nd appearance on ‘College GameDay,’ most recently hosting Tennessee on September 21,2004,a game the Sooners lost 25-15.Michigan will be making its 41st ‘College GameDay’ appearance, having last been featured on the show on September 7, 2024, in a loss to Texas 31-12.
