Colleen Niemiec Obituary: Salt Lake City Remembers Bubby

Colleen Niemiec Obituary: Salt Lake City Remembers Bubby

October 5, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

Colleen Niemiec, affectionately known as “Bubby,” passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 25, 2026. Born in Salt Lake City on February 3, 1928, she was later adopted by Annie and William Dexter Allen, building a life centered tightly around her home, her garden, and her surviving family.

Nearly Five Decades of Marriage and Family Roots in Salt Lake City

Colleen shared nearly 50 years of marriage with John Stanley Niemiec, a partnership that lasted until his death on April 15, 1990. Throughout her life, her household served as a primary gathering point for relatives. Her grandson, Elton Anderson, retained vivid childhood memories of frequent sleepovers at his grandparents’ residence. When Elton later took up cycling, both Colleen and John actively supported his interest by driving him around to source bicycles and specialized accessories.

Her family structure experienced profound loss earlier in the year when her daughter, Christine Niemiec Anderson, passed away on May 2, 2026. Colleen is survived by her daughter JoAnn Niemiec, her grandson Elton along with his wife Brianne, and her great-grandchildren Grace and Jack.

Homemaker and Local Working Life

While primarily dedicating her time to being a homemaker, Colleen held steady employment within the Salt Lake City community across the years. She worked as a collator at the Utah State Capitol and served as a secretary at J.E. Cosgriff Memorial Catholic School. Outside of her professional and domestic responsibilities, she maintained an active schedule of hands-on hobbies.

Colleen cultivated a deep appreciation for gardening, flowers, and drawing. She regularly visited local thrift stores to hunt for antiques and unique treasures. She possessed considerable mechanical skill as a clockmaker, successfully repairing countless cuckoo clocks and building her own working grandfather clock from scratch.

Graveside Service Arrangements at Mount Olivet Cemetery

Final arrangements have been scheduled for early October 2026. A graveside service will take place at Mount Olivet Cemetery, located at 1342 E. 500 S. in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at 12:00 p.m.

Families navigating similar losses frequently coordinate with local mortuaries and funeral service providers to manage final arrangements and cemetery logistics. For families managing estate organization or planning memorial gatherings, consulting local estate administration professionals or community grief support groups remains a standard step.
