Indonesia Prioritizes Collective Trademark Registration for Red and White Cooperatives
Jakarta, Indonesia – The Indonesian goverment is actively promoting the registration of collective trademarks as a key strategy to bolster the economic value and market position of products originating from Red and White Cooperatives. Law Minister supratman Andi Atgas underscored this commitment during a recent national seminar in Jakarta, emphasizing that intellectual property registration is no longer optional, but essential for ensuring domestic products thrive within Indonesia.
collective trademarks, used by groups to identify goods and services with shared characteristics, are seen as vital to strengthening Indonesia’s people-driven economy, aligning with President Prabowo Subianto’s vision.Minister Atgas explained that these trademarks distinguish cooperative products, safeguarding their authenticity and preventing economic devaluation.
The initiative aims to foster collaboration and innovation within the Red and White Cooperative network. Examples already utilizing collective trademarks include the Syariah Gampong Ulee Rubek Timu Red and White Cooperative in Aceh, specializing in fish and salt production, and the Syariah Gampong Cot Patisah Red and White Cooperative, known for its mats and woven goods.
Recognizing financing as a significant hurdle for cooperatives and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), the government believes collective trademark registration will improve access to capital by providing crucial legal protection for intellectual property.Supporting this effort, regulations such as Government Regulation No.24 of 2022 on MSME financing support and Creative Economy Ministerial Regulation No. 6 of 2025 on Intellectual Property Valuation have been implemented.
Moreover, the Law Ministry has streamlined the administrative process for registering collective trademarks specifically for Red and White Cooperative products. The government hopes these measures will accelerate intellectual property protection, ultimately enhancing the competitiveness of cooperative products within the Indonesian market and building consumer trust through assured quality.
