Cold Front Brings Near-Freezing Temperatures to Texas
A cold front is moving south across the Texas-Oklahoma border, bringing cooler fall-like weather to the Lone Star State, mysanantonio.com reported.
Cold Air Reaches the Panhandle
The National Weather Service Amarillo office reported that a cold front will move into the area late Tuesday afternoon, introducing some cooler air.
A second, stronger cold-front wave heading into the second half of the week will leave Texas Panhandle residents from Dalhart to Amarillo shivering overnight. Overnight lows will dip into the mid-to-upper 30s on Tuesday and Wednesday, before the secondary burst sends temperatures near the freezing point.
Thermometers on Thursday night are expected to bottom out in the low 30s, touching 33 degrees in certain areas. Frigid conditions will persist through the weekend. Despite the cold nights, afternoons remain relatively pleasant with mostly sunny skies and midday highs peaking in the low-to-mid 60s.
That creates a significant diurnal swing of as much as 25 degrees between Thursday’s daytime highs and nighttime lows.
North Texas and San Antonio Experience Dramatic Temperature Drops
Cities further south face a similar, though less severe, cooling trend. North Texas communities in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex will experience a roughly 20-degree temperature drop between Tuesday afternoon and evening, sliding from a peak of 74 degrees down to a chilly 55 degrees at night. Thermometers in North Texas will hold steady at those cooler levels through the weekend.
The San Antonio forecast mirrors the pattern closely. Tuesday afternoon highs hover in the low-to-mid 70s before evening lows sink to the mid-to-upper 50s.
