CM Punk has opened up about the challenges he faced following his departure from WWE in 2014, a period complicated by his wife, AJ Lee, continuing to wrestle with the company for another year. The revelation came during a recent appearance on Kevin Hart’s Cold As Balls interview series, as reported by Wrestling Inc.
The strain on thier relationship during that time ultimately strengthened their bond, according to Punk. He explained that Lee’s continued involvement with WWE created a tough dynamic, but paved the way for a more supportive partnership as they both navigated their respective careers. This insight into their personal lives comes as Punk returns to professional wrestling with AEW,and Lee continues to pursue creative endeavors outside the ring, including a short film debut at the Tribeca film Festival.
“It was difficult because when I left, she was still with the company for a year. That was a hard year for us, relationship-wise,” Punk stated. “But it made everything after that so much easier. Her understanding the business now that I’m back in it, and when she has important stuff to do – like she had a short film debut at Tribeca Film Festival – she can go do that, I can watch our dog, Larry, and when I’m here with you, freezing my nuts off, she’s at home watching Larry.”
Punk emphasized the strength of their partnership, declaring, ”I found my person. She is 100% my partner.” The couple’s ability to support each other’s ambitions, even amidst demanding schedules and career transitions, highlights a resilient foundation built on mutual understanding and respect.
