Rochester, MI – Cleveland State men’s golf is third in the team standings while teammates Drew Simms and Grant Pendergast are both in the top five individually after 36 holes at the Oakland Golden Grizzlies Intercollegiate.
Simms is fifth at 1-under par,two strokes behind the leader. Pendergast is also in red figures, sitting at 1-under.Only five players in the tournament finished with under-par scores through two rounds on a challenging course.
Simms began the tournament with a 2-under 69, highlighted by birdies on holes 6, 16, and 17, and a birdie at the third hole. His second round was even par (71) despite three consecutive bogeys on holes 1-3 after starting with three birdies in his first 14 holes.
Pendergast opened with a 1-over 71, carding birdies in four consecutive holes (7-10). He improved to a 2-under 69 in the second round, including a hole-out eagle 2 on the par-4 17th. He was one of seven players to record an eagle during the tournament.
Dominik Cosic is just outside the top 20, tied at 5-over (74-73) with three birdies overall. Trace Gibson is tied for 48th at 11-over (78-75), and Ryan Dinan is 71st at 18-over (79-81).
as a team, Cleveland State leads the field in par-5 scoring, averaging 5.03. They are fourth on par-4s and fifth on par-3s, finishing third overall with 25 birdies. Simms is tied for first in par-5 scoring at 4-under, while Pendergast is tied for fourth on par-4s at even par and tied for fifth on par-3s at 1-under. Pendergast is tied for fourth with eight total birdies, and Cosic is tied for fifth with 26 pars.
