Bern, Switzerland – June 26, 2025 – In a significant growth for the European classical music scene, conductor Clément Lonca will assume the role of First Conductor and Assistant to Orchestra Chef Alevtina Ioffe at the Opéra de Bern starting with the 2025/26 season. Ioffe will begin her functions this summer, succeeding Artem Lonhinov, who is moving to the Theater of Friborg.
Lonca brings a wealth of experience to the position, having been a frequent guest conductor at the National Opera of Lyon and the Hector berlioz ensemble. His resume also boasts roles as a musical assistant at prestigious festivals and opera houses including the Salzburg Festival, Vienna Opera, Theater An Der Wien, and the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées.
During his inaugural season in Bern, Lonca is slated to provide musical direction for the Marriage of Figaro, the ballet Carmen, and the premiere of a new opera by Salvatore Sciarrino.
