Santa Fe city officials and the city’s largest employee union, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Local 394, have reached a tentative agreement on a new three-year contract. The deal, announced Tuesday, covers approximately 250 city employees and includes wage increases, enhanced benefits, and provisions addressing workplace safety.
The agreement provides for a 3% wage increase each year of the contract, retroactive to July 1, 2023. It also includes increases to the city’s contribution towards employee health insurance premiums and establishes a joint labor-management committee to address workplace safety concerns. Specific details of the agreement are being withheld pending ratification by union members, which is scheduled for next week.
“This agreement reflects the city’s commitment to valuing its employees and providing them wiht fair compensation and benefits,” said City Manager John Blair in a statement. “We appreciate the collaborative spirit demonstrated by AFSCME throughout the negotiation process.”
AFSCME Local 394 President Stephanie Baca stated, “This contract is a win for city workers and the community. It recognizes the vital services our members provide and ensures thay can continue to afford to live and work in Santa Fe.”
The previous contract between the city and AFSCME Local 394 expired June 30, 2023.Negotiations began in May 2023.The city employs roughly 700 peopel total, with AFSCME representing the largest bargaining unit.
