Church of the Brethren Seeks Nominations for Denominational Leadership
The Church of the Brethren Standing Committee Nominating Committee has issued a formal call for nominations to fill upcoming denominational leadership vacancies ahead of the Annual Conference, setting a submission deadline of Dec. 2, 2026, brethren.org reported.
Nominating Committee Assesses Skills for Leadership Ballot
Choosing denominational officers requires deliberate corporate discernment rather than routine individual choice, according to Lori Sollenberger Knepp, chair of the Nominating Committee. The process starts when members submit names for consideration. Committee members then contact each nominee to request agreement for further evaluation alongside detailed biographical information.
This preliminary data allows the committee to assess the specific skills and qualifications each candidate brings to open roles. The Nominating Committee subsequently builds a provisional ballot for the Standing Committee. That district delegate body then refines the selections down to a final slate presented for a vote before the delegate body at the Annual Conference.
Nominee Information Forms Are Due Dec. 9, 2026
The nomination process relies on input from the wider church body to identify qualified servants. District delegates and local members are encouraged to discuss potential leadership calls with trusted peers before submitting names. Nominee information forms from individuals who accept their nomination are due Dec. 9, 2026.
Choosing to live faithfully presents any number of moments for discernment. Everyday choices usually don’t call for serious discernment but are simply a matter of doing, as an individual, what we know is right. But now and then we need to dig a deeper.
While committee leaders acknowledge potential flaws in human nomination structures, the denomination maintains that prayerful participation yields capable leadership.
