Chukwunonso Uzoma David Uzoma Eze overstayed tourist visa after 2015 entry
Chukwunonso Uzoma David Uzoma Eze, a Nigerian national charged with the stabbing death of 19-year-old UMass Dartmouth football player Marvins Antoine in Providence, Rhode Island, entered the United States on a tourist visa in 2015 and subsequently overstayed his authorized stay while receiving deferred action under two presidential administrations, according to multiple federal law enforcement sources.
Visa History and Federal Actions
Federal law enforcement sources outlined the immigration timeline for Eze, stating that he first entered the United States on a B-2 tourist visa in 2015. After entry, he received two extensions on his visa during the Obama administration. Once those authorized stays expired, Eze remained in the country.
The immigration file shifted further when the Biden administration approved Eze’s request for deferred action in September 2022. Deferred action represents a discretionary decision by the federal government to temporarily delay an individual’s removal from the country, though it does not grant lawful immigration status.
Additional requests for deferred action followed. Eze applied again in February 2025 and October 2025. The latter request received approval under the Trump administration on Oct. 8, 2025, according to the sources.
He submitted another application for employment authorization in February 2025 tied to his deferred action status. DHS stated that this application remains pending. According to DHS officials, a murder conviction would result in the termination of Eze's deferred action status.
The Providence Stabbing Incident
The criminal charges stem from an early morning violent encounter in Providence. Providence Police Department officials stated that the stabbing occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m. on a Saturday outside the parking lot of Mezzo Lounge.
Investigators determined the violence erupted from an altercation involving individuals who had been inside the lounge prior to the incident. Marvins Antoine, a 19-year-old UMass Dartmouth football player, died from a stab wound to the chest. A second 19-year-old teammate, Kensley Macean, sustained stab wounds to his head and neck during the same confrontation. Emergency responders transported Macean to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment.
Following the attack, the UMass Dartmouth Police Department located Eze and took him into custody.
