mexico City – singer Christian Nodal has not been exonerated in his legal dispute with Worldwide Music, the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) clarified today, despite a judge’s decision not too link him or his parents to criminal proceedings. The FGR emphasized that the ruling stems from a need to await the outcome of an ongoing civil dispute regarding ownership of music rights.
A federal judge persistent that proceeding with the criminal case would be premature until a civil court establishes who legitimately owns the rights in question, effectively pausing the examination into potential procedural fraud and copyright violation.
“The procedure remains open, awaiting that result,” the FGR stated in a release. “Both Christian ‘N’ and the complainants can provide the FGR with the evidence thay have in this regard.”
The decision followed a marathon 17-hour hearing. Prior to the FGR’s clarification, Nodal’s legal team celebrated the judge’s decision as a victory, arguing it demonstrated a lack of evidence supporting Universal Music’s claims.
“It was a very long day… We have been here for 17 hours. It was worth it. We were not linked to the process,” Nodal stated as he left the hearing with his parents, Cristy Nodal and Jaime González.
The FGR maintains that the judge’s decision is a procedural suspension, not an acquittal, and the case will remain open pending the civil court’s ruling.
