Christopher Nolan Elected President of the Directors Guild of America
Los Angeles, CA – Christopher Nolan, the acclaimed director behind films like Oppenheimer adn Inception, has been elected President of the Directors Guild of America (DGA). The election results were announced Saturday, marking a important moment for the union as it prepares to navigate evolving challenges in the entertainment industry.
Nolan’s election comes at a pivotal time for directors, with ongoing concerns surrounding artificial intelligence, creative rights, and economic protections for DGA members. As President, he will lead the union’s efforts to address these issues and advocate for the interests of over 18,000 directors and assistant directors. The DGA represents directors and other directorial personnel working in film, television, commercials, and new media.
A DGA member since 2001, Nolan has a long history of service within the organization, including roles on the national board and Western directors council since 2015. He previously chaired the union’s theatrical creative rights committee and its artificial intelligence committee, demonstrating a commitment to safeguarding the artistic and economic well-being of directors.
Alongside Nolan’s election, Laura Belsey (The Walking Dead) was elected National Vice President, and Paris Barclay (Doctor Odyssey) was chosen as Secretary-Treasurer.Todd Holland, Ron Howard, and Gina Prince-Bythewood will also serve as Vice Presidents. The newly elected leadership team is expected to prioritize securing “crucial creative and economic protections for our members,” according to a DGA statement.
