Electricity Restoration in Chornomorsk progresses, Upper Floors Still Awaiting Full Service
Chornomorsk, Ukraine – Water adn electricity restoration efforts are underway in Chornomorsk following a large-scale Russian drone attack on August 31st, though full service has not yet been restored to all residents. More than 29,000 subscribers in the Odesa region lost power during the overnight assault, which utilized 142 Shahed-type drones and similar unmanned aerial vehicles. The attack targeted critical infrastructure and private properties, causing damage to four power facilities and sparking fires that were subsequently extinguished by emergency responders. While lower floors of high-rise buildings in Chornomorsk now have water supply, work continues to restore service to upper floors according to a scheduled timeline. The ongoing restoration is vital for residents as Ukraine enters cooler months, and underscores the vulnerability of civilian infrastructure to continued Russian aggression.
Ukrainian air defense systems reportedly intercepted or suppressed 126 of the attacking drones.Despite these defenses, the attack resulted in one civilian injury and prompted the launch of a war crimes examination. Critical infrastructure in the affected areas is currently operating on generator power, and “Points of Unbreakability” – designated warming and charging stations – have been activated to support the population.
This attack follows a similar incident on August 20th, when Russian forces targeted the Izmail district with shahed drones, damaging port infrastructure and injuring one person.Utility companies are working to fully address the consequences of the recent attacks and restore essential services to all affected areas.
