Cholet Basket signs former JL Bourg guard JeQuan Lewis
Cholet Basket has signed former JL Bourg point guard JeQuan Lewis.
The Infirmary Crowds the Roster
Cholet’s medical room filled rapidly over the opening weeks of the season. Captain Miralem Halilovic fractured a finger on October 6 during a victory against Hapoël Holon in the Basketball Champions League. The club brought in Johnathan Williams as a medical replacement for Halilovic. Shortly after, point guard Jarrod West was ruled out until mid-December with an injury. West averaged 4 points and 6.3 assists over the first four league matches.
Fabrice Lefrançois handed playmaking duties to two 17-year-olds for the trip to Nanterre during the fifth round of the Betclic Élite. Making his first league start, Aaron Towo-Nansi scored 16 points as Cholet’s top scorer, while Amadou Fall contributed 7 points in 15 minutes. The youth-led effort fell short, and Cholet lost to sit at two wins and three losses in the domestic championship.

Journeyman Guard Joins the Rotations
JeQuan Lewis arrives in Maine-et-Loire following stints across European and international leagues. Formed at Virginia Commonwealth University, Lewis played in the 2017 Summer League with the Milwaukee Bucks and their G League affiliate, the Wisconsin Herd. Spells followed in Greece with Kymis and PAOK Thessaloniki, the VTB League with Estonian side Kalev, and Rostock in Germany, where he averaged 16.1 points during the 2022–2023 season. That German campaign preceded his move to Bourg, which aimed to shift Axel Julien to the shooting guard position.
During his tenure in the Ain department, Lewis posted 8.2 points and 4.4 assists across 25 Betclic Élite regular-season matches, alongside 7 points and 4.3 assists in 12 Eurocup appearances. JL Bourg reached the Eurocup finals—lost to Paris Basketball in April 2024—and advanced to the domestic championship semi-finals against Monaco. Following that run, the guard played for the Qingdao Eagles in China during the 2024–2025 season, then joined Igokea in Bosnia and Herzegovina to compete in the Adriatic League and the Basketball Champions League, the exact European competition Cholet contests this term.
