Eduardo Águila Emerges as Frontrunner for Chivas ‌Reinforcement, ‌Surpassing César Montes

GUADALAJARA, MEXICO – Eduardo Águila is increasingly likely to become Chivas’ central defender reinforcement for 2026, according to recent reports, overtaking previously rumored target César Montes. The shift in focus stems from a strategic alignment with head coach Gabriel milito’s vision for the team’s defensive style.

While César Montes’ name has circulated ‌in recent weeks as a potential addition to the Rebaño Sagrado, reporter César Huerta revealed that the Chivas board does⁤ not currently prioritize his signing. The club is seeking a central defender whose skillset better complements Milito‘s tactical approach.

Huerta explained on his YouTube channel that Chivas is specifically looking for a “central defender with good footing, preferably left-footed, with good exit, with good vision and preferably agile.” he added, “The profile, from what I hear and what they describe to me, it has more to do ⁤with Eduardo Águila than with César Montes.”

This preference highlights Milito’s desire for a ball-playing defender capable of initiating attacks from the back, a quality reportedly more present in Águila’s profile than Montes’. The potential arrival of Águila could also coincide with departures from the current Chivas defensive line, with Luis Olivas, Leonardo Sepúlveda, and Raúl Martínez ⁤reportedly facing uncertain futures at the⁤ club, while Gilberto Sepúlveda may remain with the team.
