China Scholarships 2024: Types & How to Apply | Fully & Partial Funded
China’s Ministry of Education has begun accepting applications for the 2026/2027 academic year of the Chinese Government Scholarship, offering financial aid to international students pursuing studies at institutions including China University of Mining and Technology (CUMT) in Xuzhou.
The scholarship program, detailed on the China Scholarship Council (CSC) website, provides opportunities for students to pursue bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees, as well as programs for research scholars. CUMT, identified by the code 10290, is a designated institution for both bilateral programs administered through Chinese embassies and programs directly managed by the CSC.
CUMT itself offers a tiered scholarship system for international students. Bachelor’s students can receive full or 50% tuition waivers. Master’s and doctoral students who qualify are eligible for full tuition coverage, along with a monthly living stipend of 1,000 yuan and accommodation assistance of 3,000 yuan per academic year, according to a notice published on the university’s International College website.
Eligibility for CUMT’s scholarships is based on academic performance. Students applying for the ‘A’ level scholarship must maintain a minimum average grade of 80% (or a 3.2/4.0 GPA). The ‘B’ level scholarship requires a minimum average grade of 75% (or a 3.0/4.0 GPA). Current students must also meet these academic thresholds to renew their scholarships annually.
Applicants for bachelor’s degrees are generally expected to be under 25 years of age, master’s applicants under 35, and doctoral applicants under 40, as outlined in the broader Chinese Government Scholarship guidelines. Bachelor’s applicants must also pass the “CSCA” exam, an academic proficiency test for international students. Proficiency in Chinese is also required for programs taught in Chinese, with a minimum HSK level 3 for bachelor’s students and HSK level 4 for master’s and doctoral students.
The application process requires a completed Chinese Government Scholarship Application Form, a valid passport, and notarized copies of academic transcripts. Students currently enrolled in educational institutions must submit a pre-graduation or enrollment verification letter from their school. The deadline for submitting applications through Chinese embassies is not specified, but applicants are directed to the CSC website (www.campuschina.org) for detailed information on application procedures, and deadlines.
Tuition fees at CUMT vary by program. For the 2025/2026 academic year, tuition for language students is 12,000 yuan per year. Bachelor’s programs in humanities cost 13,800 yuan, while those in science and engineering cost 14,600 yuan. Master’s programs cost 15,400 yuan (humanities) or 16,200 yuan (science and engineering), and doctoral programs cost 17,000 yuan annually. A 400 yuan application fee and an annual insurance fee of 690-890 yuan are also required.
