Chilliwack Shooting: 1 Dead, 1 Injured, IHIT Investigating
One person is dead and another is in serious condition following a shooting in Chilliwack, British Columbia, on Sunday morning. Local RCMP officers responded to reports of gunfire at a residence on Mellard Avenue at approximately 8:40 a.m. PT.
Upon arrival, first responders discovered two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. One was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was transported to hospital with serious injuries, according to police.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken over conduct of the investigation, according to RCMP officials. IHIT serves 29 RCMP communities and 4 municipal police communities, extending from Pemberton to Boston Bar, including Sechelt.
Authorities are asking the public to avoid the area surrounding Mellard Avenue as the investigation continues. IHIT’s Information Line is available for anyone with information related to the case at 1-877-551-4448.
The Upper Fraser Valley regional detachment is assisting with the investigation. IHIT includes experienced homicide investigators and subject matter experts from various Lower Mainland RCMP detachments and municipal police forces.
As of February 16, 2026, police have not released the identities of the victims or provided further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
