Chile’s Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (Minvu) is providing financial assistance to renters through the “Subsidio de Arriendo” program, offering up to 170 UF (Unidades de Fomento) to eligible families. The program aims to alleviate the financial burden of housing costs for those who rent or live with relatives, providing a temporary solution for up to eight years.
The subsidy, designed as a monthly contribution, is capped at 4.2 UF per month. Families can utilize the funds continuously or intermittently within the eight-year timeframe. According to ChileAtiende, the total subsidy amount is intended to help cover monthly rental payments.
Eligibility for the Subsidio de Arriendo requires applicants to be at least 18 years old and possess a valid Chilean national identity card. Foreign nationals must present a valid foreign identity card. Applicants must also apply with a “núcleo familiar” – a family nucleus – consisting of a spouse, civil union partner, cohabitating partner (without a formal civil union agreement), or children. Individuals over 60 years of age are exempt from this requirement.
To qualify, applicants must be registered in the Social Housing Registry (RSH) and have a socioeconomic qualification of no more than 70%. The Minvu limits one application per RSH registration per call for applications. A minimum savings of 4 UF in a housing savings account, held in the applicant’s name, their spouse’s, or civil union partner’s name, is also mandatory.
Household income requirements stipulate a monthly income between 7 and 25 UF. This upper limit increases with family size; for each additional family member beyond the third, the maximum income allowance rises by 8 UF. A four-person family can earn up to 33 UF, while a five-person family can earn up to 41 UF. Applicants must also demonstrate registered pension contributions through the Superintendency of Pensions.
Individuals without traditional employment contracts can substantiate their income through alternative documentation. Acceptable proof includes income statements from the Internal Revenue Service (SII) covering the last six months of freelance invoices, pay slips showing net income, or proof of disability, old-age, or survivor pensions. Certification of savings must be obtained from financial institutions with online consultation agreements with the Minvu, including BancoEstado, Scotiabank/Desarrollo, Coopeuch and Caja de Compensación Los Andes.
The value of the rental property cannot exceed 11 UF, although this maximum rental value increases to 13 UF for properties located in the regions of Arica and Parinacota, Antofagasta, Atacama, Metropolitan, Aysén and Magallanes, where the monthly contribution is 4.9 UF. The application period for the most recent call closed on November 14, 2025. The regions of Tarapacá and Valparaíso were not included in this particular call for applications.
