Chile Holidays 2026: Dates, Long Weekends & Irrenunciable Days
Chilean workers and families are preparing for a year with 16 national holidays in 2026, including five that are legally mandated and several that will create extended weekends, according to a recently published calendar of official observances.
The first long weekend of the year will coincide with Semana Santa, falling between Friday, April 3rd and Sunday, April 5th. Shortly after, the May 1st celebration of Día del Trabajador (Labor Day) will also provide an extended break, as This proves considered an irrenunciable holiday.
Further opportunities for extended rest will arrive on Monday, June 29th, for San Pedro y San Pablo, and in September with Fiestas Patrias, the celebration of Chilean independence. Even as the 18th of September falls on a Friday in 2026, the irrenunciable nature of both the 18th and 19th ensures consecutive days of mandatory rest. October will also see a long weekend with the observance of Encuentro de Dos Mundos on Monday, October 12th, and Christmas, falling on a Friday, will close the year with another extended break.
