CHIKA Navigates personal Loss and Artistic Evolution on New EP ‘Wish You Were (T)Here)’
Rapper and singer CHIKA has released her new EP, Wish You Were (T)Here), a project born from grief and reflecting significant artistic growth. The EP marks a shift in sound and a deeper exploration of vulnerability for the artist, who previously gained recognition for her sharp lyricism and politically charged tracks.
The six-track EP arrives as CHIKA processes personal loss and redefines her creative process. She describes the project as a demonstration of her evolution as a musician, particularly in her approach to songwriting without external influence. Wish You Were (T)Here) represents a turning point, showcasing a more melodic and introspective side of CHIKA’s artistry while maintaining the authenticity that has resonated wiht her fanbase.
CHIKA highlighted “This Time” as a standout track, praising the production work by A$AP Rocky and noting its departure from the more rap-focused sound of her earlier work. “It’s the vibe shift from the front half of the project to the back,” she explained. “Everything else from the halfway point besides the very last track is sung for the most part.” She hopes the song will become a “deep cut” appreciated by her listeners.
Reflecting on the creation of the EP, CHIKA stated it taught her “what I can do or the way that I make things now versus when I was a kid.” She added, “It kind of showed me my growth and my evolution when nobody is in my ear, and it made me… I don’t know. It kind of made me feel like I have grown up and I want my fans to see that, too.”
While touring plans remain tentative (“Hey, we’ll see. If things go well, sure.”), CHIKA is already looking ahead to her next project, though she declined to share details at this time.Visuals accompanying Wish You Were (T)Here) are forthcoming.
Wish You Were (T)Here) is available now on all streaming platforms.
