Chicharito Hernández Credits Young Chivas Forward Armando González‘s Success to Hard Work and Humility
Guadalajara, Mexico – Javier “Chicharito” Hernández, the veteran forward with a storied career including stints at Manchester United and Real Madrid, publicly lauded Chivas de Guadalajara teammate Armando “Hormiga” González following their victory over Rayados de Monterrey in Week 17 of the Apertura Tournament 2025. Hernández emphasized González’s dedication and talent, expressing a desire to see the young player reach his full potential, possibly even representing Mexico in the World Cup.
Hernández was swift to deflect attention from himself, stating, “All the credit goes to him, he listens to me and everything and I simply do it with the pure intention that he brings out the best version of himself. I want to make it clear that I don’t care about comparisons, I don’t care who scores more or less goals. What I want is to see young Mexicans succeed.”
The praise comes as González enjoys a breakout season with Chivas, with Hernández attributing a notable part of his success to diligent effort. “he deserves all this as goals don’t fall by chance, they don’t fall because they have to happen to him. He has worked a lot, he is a humble person. He has a lot of talent, the ceiling is his limit, I hope he can go to the World Cup and I wish it with all my heart,” Hernández added.
González,22,reciprocated the gratitude, acknowledging Hernández’s profound influence on his recent form. “There are no words to thank what Javier has done for me. I already had the idea and he helped me polish it and every time he helps me be calmer, more peaceful. Sometimes I can be very anxious and when I look at him on the bench and he tells me that I am doing well, it gives me peace of mind,” González stated.
Hernández’s mentorship highlights a commitment to fostering the next generation of Mexican football talent within the Sacred Flock.
