Blackhawks Prospect Skips College, Aims for NHL Roster
In a surprising turn, Chicago Blackhawks prospect Jack Pridham has de-committed from Boston University. He is now setting his sights on earning a spot on the Blackhawks’ NHL roster straight from the OHL.
Pridham’s Evolving Plan
Jack Pridham, the Blackhawks’ third-round pick from last year, initially planned to play college hockey after his time with the Kitchener Rangers in the OHL. However, he has changed course and will try to secure a contract with the Blackhawks during training camp.
“Blackhawks prospect Jack Pridham’s original plan was to go from the BCHL to the NCAA after Chicago took him in the third round of the 2024 draft. Once the NCAA announced it would allow OHL players to play college hockey, however, Pridham, who is from the Toronto area, decided to include the OHL in his development plan while keeping his commitment to Boston University.
Now, after playing last season with the Kitchener Rangers in the OHL, Pridham has decided to alter his development plan again. He de-committed from BU and hopes to earn a contract with the Blackhawks out of training camp.”
The Competition Ahead
Making the Blackhawks’ roster won’t be easy for Pridham. He’ll be competing against numerous young talents within the organization. His maturity and hockey IQ, however, could give him an edge.
According to a 2024 report from the NCAA, fewer than 2% of college athletes go on to play professional sports. (NCAA)
Offensive Potential
Pridham could significantly boost the Chicago Blackhawks’ offense. His versatility and ability to both score and create plays make him a valuable asset.
Strong Performance in the OHL
During his recent OHL season, Pridham showcased his offensive capabilities by scoring 27 goals and providing 27 assists in 48 games. Furthermore, he added seven goals and six assists in 16 playoff games, demonstrating his consistent effectiveness.
With the Blackhawks seemingly open to giving young players opportunities, Pridham aims to capitalize on this chance and secure a spot in the NHL sooner than anticipated.
