Chiara Poggi Case: Sempio Defense to File Rebuttals as Poggi Family Declines
The legal teams representing the family of Chiara Poggi and defense counsel for Andrea Sempio are adopting different approaches following the second closing of investigations into the August 2007 murder in Garlasco, with a deadline of October 18 for filings now approaching, Fanpage reported.
Defense Prepares Rebuttals as Prosecution Focuses on Sempio
The Procura di Pavia maintains that Andrea Sempio, a former friend of the victim’s brother Marco Poggi, killed Chiara Poggi inside her Garlasco home. This stance diverges from the 2015 final conviction of Alberto Stasi, who remains the sole individual definitively convicted for the crime. Attorney Angela Taccia, representing Sempio, confirmed at the Rumore Festival that defense counsel will submit formal briefs and counter-consultations before the mid-October cutoff.
We have already established a meeting to understand and take stock with each consultant and understand which themes to rebut, we do not yet know whether to rebut right on all of them or keep something for the future,
Taccia told Fanpage regarding the ongoing review of the investigative files.

Taccia characterized the investigative approach as a rigorous adversarial effort, noting that Sempio previously declined an evaluation by a designated psychiatrist. The defense asserts that prosecutors are aggressively seeking evidence to support their current theory of the case, prompting a similarly firm legal posture.
Poggi Family Opts Against Further Submissions
In contrast to the active preparation underway by the Sempio legal team, attorneys Gianluigi Tizzoni and Francesco Compagna, representing the Poggi family, announced that no additional memoranda or counter-consultations will be filed with the Pavia prosecutors. The family previously elected not to constitute themselves as civil parties ahead of an anticipated preliminary hearing for Sempio.
The victim’s father addressed the ongoing developments in a recent interview, stating that the family relies on the existing judicial outcome naming Stasi as the perpetrator while acknowledging that any newly identified responsible party would be recognized if established through legal proceedings.
With the October 18 deadline drawing near, the procedural next step involves the formal lodging of defense filings with the Procura di Pavia, setting the stage for a potential preliminary hearing where the sufficiency of the new investigative findings will be tested before a judge.
