Local Golfer to Compete in U.S. Adaptive Open

Jason Hasty, a Chesterfield County native, is set to participate in the USGA Adaptive Open in Rockville, Maryland, beginning Monday. Only 96 golfers have been selected for the tournament.

Home Turf Advantage

Ranked among the nation’s top adaptive golfers, Hasty was born with a congenital condition affecting the development of the fingers on his left hand. As one of only two players representing Virginia, and the sole competitor from Central Virginia, the event holds special significance.

In fact, about 15% of adults in the U.S. have a disability, impacting their participation in sports and recreation (CDC.gov).

“Being that it’s so close to home for me, Maryland, this would be the first time that my family, my girls see me at any real tournament. My first time my parents will ever see me play golf in a tournament capacity, so it’s very, it’s very, you know, emotional for me to get out there,”

Family Support Fuels Competition

For Hasty, this tournament marks a milestone, offering his family a rare opportunity to witness him compete. The proximity to home means his parents and daughters will be present, adding emotional weight to the occasion.
