Charterhouse Extends Learning Through Robust School Partnerships & Student Volunteering
Charterhouse is deeply committed to enriching the educational landscape of its surrounding community through extensive partnerships with local state and preparatory schools. These collaborations are designed to broaden horizons, provide academic challenges, and inspire students across a diverse range of disciplines. A key component of this outreach involves Charterhouse pupils themselves, who actively participate as peer mentors, fostering valuable connections with younger students and developing crucial leadership skills through these interactions.
These partnerships aren’t simply one-way streets. Charterhouse offers its partner schools access to a comprehensive catalog of over 30 uniquely designed workshops, each led by the school’s dedicated subject specialist teachers. These sessions are carefully customized to meet the specific needs of participating students, encompassing engaging experiences like dynamic science demonstrations, intensive art masterclasses, and immersive historical explorations. Furthermore,Charterhouse regularly hosts vibrant “carousel days” for local primary schools, providing children with hands-on opportunities to discover the joys of drama, music, science, and sports.
The school’s dedication extends beyond the classroom. Numerous Charterhouse staff members contribute their expertise by serving as Governors in local schools, demonstrating a sustained and profound commitment to collaborative educational advancement.
Beyond formal partnerships, Charterhouse fosters a culture of service through its Sixth Form volunteering electives. In their first year of Sixth Form, students can dedicate an hour and a half each week to volunteering within the local community, with a strong focus on supporting primary schools. This program allows Charterhouse students to hone essential skills - leadership, dialog, and teamwork – while delivering impactful educational experiences in areas like literacy, numeracy, drama, sports, and music. Importantly, students are empowered to create and lead these sessions, supported by teachers, cultivating a deep understanding of community needs. Many students identify this volunteering experience as a particularly meaningful and transformative aspect of their time at Charterhouse.
