Charlton Athletic Fan​ Dies During ⁢Match, Game Immediately Postponed

A somber ​atmosphere descended‌ upon ⁢The ⁢Valley today as a Charlton Athletic supporter tragically⁢ died following a medical emergency during the EFL Championship match against ⁢Portsmouth. ‍The game, which kicked off at lunchtime, was halted in the 12th minute as ⁢medical personnel attended to ⁣the⁤ fan, and was later officially postponed.

The incident brought an immediate stop to play, with players from both sides visibly distressed. medical staff worked⁢ diligently to provide assistance, but sadly, their efforts where unsuccessful.‌ At the⁤ time the match was paused, the score remained ‌0-0.

Charlton Athletic released ⁤a statement ⁢expressing their profound sadness. ‍”the club is utterly devastated to learn of the passing of a supporter during today’s match,” the statement read. “We would like to thank our medical staff, first ‍responders, and the supporters and players of both Charlton and Portsmouth ⁣for their patience and understanding during this incredibly difficult⁣ time. Our heartfelt condolences are⁣ with the supporter’s family and friends.”

Captain⁤ Greg Docherty of Charlton Athletic took to social media ⁤platform X‍ (formerly Twitter) to express his grief. “Absolutely⁢ devastating news… from all of the players at the ⁣club our thoughts are ⁢with his family and friends through this⁤ extremely ‍difficult time,” he ⁢posted,⁢ accompanied by a broken heart emoji.

Portsmouth football club also issued a statement,echoing ‌the sentiments of ⁣Charlton Athletic. “Everyone‌ at Portsmouth Football Club is deeply ​saddened to​ learn of the passing of a Charlton Athletic supporter during today’s ​match,” the statement ‌said. “Our ⁣thoughts ​and deepest condolences are with their family and friends at this difficult time.”

The English Football League (EFL) also ⁤offered its condolences⁤ via X, stating: “Our deepest condolences go out to the supporter’s family, friends and all @CAFCofficial at this incredibly difficult time.”

Details regarding the rescheduling of the ⁢match ⁤will ⁤be announced⁤ by both clubs and the ​EFL in due course.‌ Though, the focus remains on supporting the family ⁢and friends of the deceased supporter during ⁣this time ‍of immense grief.
