Charlotte FC Crushes Red Bulls 6-1: Historic MLS Win & Record Goals
Charlotte FC recorded a dominant 6-1 victory over Novel York Red Bulls on Saturday night at Bank of America Stadium, marking the most goals scored by the club in a Major League Soccer match. Five different players found the net for Charlotte, propelling them to fourth place in the Eastern Conference with eight points.
Idan Toklomati opened the scoring in the 14th minute, heading home a precise cross from Pep Biel. The goal gave Charlotte a 1-0 lead at halftime, setting the stage for a second-half onslaught. Kerwin Vargas extended the advantage just after the restart, scoring in the 46th minute. Biel then converted a direct free kick less than ten minutes later, increasing the lead to 3-0.
Wilfried Zaha added his name to the scoresheet in the 68th minute with a spectacular goal, his first of the season. Shortly after, Archie Goodwin, who entered the game as a substitute in the 75th minute, made an immediate impact, scoring his first MLS goal just two minutes after coming on. Goodwin completed his brace in stoppage time, sealing the historic victory.
New York Red Bulls managed to score a consolation goal through Julian Hall, but it was not enough to prevent the comprehensive defeat. Gustaf Beggren received a red card for New York, further compounding their difficulties.
Charlotte FC will now pause league play due to the international FIFA break. They will resume competition on April 4th, hosting the Philadelphia Union at Bank of America Stadium.
