Charles Leclerc Leads Norris in Mexico City Grand Prix Friday Practice
Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc set the pace during Friday practice at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez ahead of the Mexico City Grand Prix, edging out McLaren rival Lando Norris by 0.103 seconds while championship leader Kimi Antonelli prepared for Sunday’s title showdown, bbc.co.uk reported.
Practice Timesheets and Title Scenarios in Mexico
Leclerc topped both Friday sessions, clocking a benchmark lap of 1m 17.827s in the afternoon running as teams adjusted to an opening hour heavily impacted by rookie driver allocations. According to formula1.com, 10 drivers vacated their seats for the first practice session to give younger drivers track time, resulting in a congested pit lane when green lights appeared. Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli finished fourth fastest overall behind team-mate George Russell, who trailed Leclerc by just 0.003 seconds.
Heading into Sunday’s grand prix, Antonelli requires a ninth-place finish if Russell wins, or a 10th-place finish if Lewis Hamilton wins, to clinch his maiden world drivers’ championship. Only a victory by Russell or Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton can mathematically prevent Antonelli from securing the crown.
Technical Failures and On-Track Collisions
Ferrari’s preparations suffered a setback when Lewis Hamilton was forced to stop his car on track due to a technical problem before completing his qualifying simulations on soft tires. According to formula1.com reporting, Hamilton radioed his team to report a total loss of power starting from Turn 13, leaving him 11th overall on the combined Friday timesheets.

Licensing Complications for Prospective Rookies
Free Practice 3 is scheduled for Saturday at 11:30 local time ahead of qualifying proceedings at 15:00.
