Charlene McKenna: High Road, Low Road Reveals Surprising Luxury Experience

Irish actress Charlene McKenna expressed surprise at the level of luxury experienced during filming for the travel show High Road, Low Road in Nantes, France, according to reports from Wednesday. McKenna, alongside fellow actor Kathy Kiera Clarke, explored the city as part of the program’s fifth season.

The episode, which aired on RTE, featured McKenna and Clarke taking a boat trip and riding a “steampunk elephant,” a large mechanical sculpture, around Nantes. McKenna’s comment – “not what she imagined” – referred to the unexpectedly opulent aspects of the city, as reported by The Sun.

McKenna began her career with the miniseries Pure Mule in 2005, gaining prominence in Ireland for her role as Jennifer Jackson. She has since appeared in a number of television productions, including Raw, for which she won Best Actress (Television) at the Irish Film & Television Awards, and British series such as Ripper Street and Vienna Blood. More recently, she played Laura McKee in the BBC series Peaky Blinders and DS Niamh McGovern in Bloodlands.

Born in 1984 in Glaslough, County Monaghan, McKenna initially studied Classical Music and Religious Education at Mater Dei Institute of Education in Dublin before focusing on her acting career. She is married to actor Adam Rothenberg, and the couple have one child.

High Road, Low Road, currently in its fifth season, follows Irish personalities as they explore various European cities. The program is available to stream on RTE Player.
