Chargers Gear Up for Hall of Fame Game as Trey Lance Takes Starting QB Reins in Preseason Opener
As the Los angeles Chargers concluded Day 11 of their training camp on Tuesday, the focus has firmly shifted to game action. The team practiced for 90 minutes without pads, a session that chargers Head Coach Jim Harbaugh shortened from the originally scheduled two hours. This practice marks the final preparations before the bolts travel for Thursday’s Hall of Fame Game, where quarterback Trey Lance is slated to start.
The Chargers’ offensive line configurations saw notable adjustments during Tuesday’s drills. Coach Harbaugh confirmed earlier in the day that Zion Johnson is set to start at center for the preseason opener and is expected to play a couple of series. Johnson, a fourth-year lineman, demonstrated his versatility by working at multiple positions, including left guard with the first-team offense before moving to center with the second unit.
Adding to the offensive line news, left tackle Rashawn Slater made his return to full-team drills after managing a blister on his foot. The starting offensive line alignment, from left to right, featured Johnson at left tackle, Bradley Bozeman at center, and Jamaree Salyer at right guard, with Salyer filling in for Mekhi becton. Joe Alt was positioned at right tackle.
Johnson later switched to center with the reserve offense, while andre James took reps at third-team center. Quarterbacks Trey Lance and Taylor Heinicke shared snaps with the second offensive unit. This group’s offensive line consisted of Trey Pipkins III at left tackle, Karsen Barnhart at left guard, Johnson at center, Branson Taylor at right guard, and Corey Stewart at right tackle.
