SÃO PAULO, Brazil – Grammy-winning singer Chappell Roan has responded to allegations made by soccer star Jorginho Frello that a security guard aggressively confronted his 11-year-classic stepdaughter after she recognized the singer at a São Paulo hotel. The incident occurred on the eve of Roan’s performance at the Lollapalooza Brazil music festival.

Jorginho, a midfielder for Flamengo, detailed the incident on his Instagram account Saturday, stating that his wife, Catherine Harding, and her daughter were having breakfast when Roan walked by their table. According to Jorginho, his stepdaughter “recognized her, got excited, and just wanted to make sure it was her,” but did not approach the singer. He claims a security guard then approached their table and spoke to both his wife and daughter “in an extremely aggressive manner,” accusing the girl of “disrespect” and “harassment.” Jorginho stated the guard threatened to file a complaint with the hotel, leaving his stepdaughter in tears.

Roan addressed the allegations Sunday, clarifying that the security guard was not part of her personal security detail but was employed by the hotel. “It’s unfair to assume someone has bad intentions when there’s no reason to believe it, because there wasn’t even any action,” Roan stated, according to reports from the Associated Press and CBC News. She added, “I do not hate people who are fans of my music. I do not hate children.”
