Chappell Roan Apologizes After Security Incident Leaves Jorginho’s Daughter in Tears
Chappell Roan has issued an apology to the wife and daughter of footballer Jorginho after the former Chelsea and Arsenal player publicly detailed an incident involving the singer’s security team at a São Paulo hotel. The incident occurred whereas Jorginho’s family was attending Lollapalooza Brazil, where Roan headlined on Saturday night.
In a lengthy Instagram post on Saturday, Jorginho described how his 11-year-old daughter, whose father is actor Jude Law, approached Roan at breakfast “to confirm it was her.” According to Jorginho, a security guard then confronted his wife, Catherine Harding, and daughter “in an extremely aggressive manner,” stating that his daughter should not “disrespect” or “harass” other people. He expressed his disappointment, stating, “It’s sad to see this kind of treatment coming from those who should understand the importance of fans.” He concluded his post with a direct message to Roan, questioning her appreciation for her fanbase.
Roan responded to the allegations on Sunday, posting a video on her own Instagram Stories. She stated that she was unaware of the interaction, saying, “I didn’t even see. I didn’t even see a woman and a child… No-one came up to me. No-one bothered me.” She clarified that the security guard was not part of her personal security detail and that she had not requested any intervention. Roan added, “It’s unfair for security to just assume someone doesn’t have good intentions, when they have no reason to believe, because there’s no action even taken.” She apologized to the mother and child, stating they “did not deserve that.”
The incident has drawn wider attention, with the mayor of Rio de Janeiro banning Roan from performing at the Todo Mundo no Rio music event. Although, the mayor extended an invitation to Jorginho’s daughter to attend the event as an honoured guest, according to reports.
This event follows a recent pattern of Roan addressing issues of fan and media interaction. She previously spoke out after a confrontational encounter with paparazzi in Paris, expressing feeling “disregarded as a human” and filming them in response. Roan has similarly been vocal about the pressures of fame, comparing it to “an abusive ex-husband” in 2024 and criticizing “stalking” and intrusive behaviour from fans. She has also criticised photographers for yelling at her on the VMAs red carpet.
Roan’s statements regarding fan behaviour have garnered support from numerous celebrities, including Miley Cyrus, Stevie Nicks, Rachel Zegler, and Daniel Craig, who praised her “guts to say those things.” Olivia Rodrigo has also publicly acknowledged Roan’s support in navigating the challenges of the entertainment industry.
