Central Coast Residents Invited to Help Chart Course for Future Walking & Cycling Infrastructure
Central Coast,NSW – Central Coast Council has launched public consultation on a new Walking and Cycling Strategy, seeking input from residents, community members, and visitors to guide infrastructure investment for the next decade. The strategy aims to improve connections between the region’s beaches, towns, schools, and key destinations with safer, more accessible pathways for all ages and abilities.
Currently under progress, the strategy builds upon the Council’s 2019 Bike Plan and Pedestrian Access and Mobility Plan, expanding on previous work to promote active transport. Since 2019, the Council has significantly expanded its shared pathway network and footpath program, leveraging funding from NSW Government grants and developer contributions.
“Walking and cycling are part of everyday life on the Coast,” said Council Mayor Lawrie McKinna. “Whether you walk to the shops, cycle to work, or push a pram around your neighbourhood, we want to hear what would make it safer and easier for you.”
council director Infrastructure Services, Boris Bolgoff, emphasized the importance of community feedback in shaping the final strategy. “We’ve listened to feedback from previous consultations and are now prioritising better access to key destinations, stronger walking and cycling connections, and improved infrastructure around town centres, schools and public transport,” he said. “This strategy will help us deliver infrastructure that supports people of all ages and abilities – and I encourage everyone to share their ideas through Your Voice Our Coast.”
