Central Chile to See Monday Storms and Midweek Valley Heat

Central Chile to See Monday Storms and Midweek Valley Heat

November 8, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

Central Chile faces a meteorological split to start the week, shifting from isolated thunderstorms and weak coastal rainfall on Monday to soaring valley temperatures exceeding 30 °C by midweek.

An incoming upper-level trough from the Pacific brings colder air aloft on Monday, November 9, 2026, clashing with surface heat to destabilize the atmosphere across Valparaíso, O’Higgins, Maule, Ñuble, and Biobío. This weather pattern follows a high-pressure ridge that prompted a heat advisory from the Dirección Meteorológica de Chile spanning Saturday through Monday afternoon.

Precipitation totals remain light on Monday, delivering about 1 mm of rain to coastal areas like Valparaíso, San Antonio, and Pichilemu. Interior and precordilleran sectors experience more active weather, with Los Andes expecting 2 mm of precipitation alongside electrical activity and a high of 24 °C. Rancagua reaches 31 °C with isolated storms and roughly 1 mm of rain, while Santiago stays dry with a high of 24 °C under partially cloudy skies.

This early-week instability contrasts sharply with an earlier weather event in October, when severe downpours triggered a destructive mudslide in the Santiago commune of Las Condes that injured six people and damaged 2,000 homes.

The high-pressure ridge quickly reestablishes itself on Tuesday, November 10, clearing skies and driving temperatures back upward. Tuesday brings a moderate rise, pushing Santiago, Los Andes, Curicó, and San Fernando to 26 °C, while Talca reaches 27 °C and Rancagua records 24 °C.

Heat peaks on Wednesday, November 11, turning the interior valleys significantly warmer. San Fernando hits 31 °C, and Santiago, Los Andes, Curicó, and Talca reach 30 °C. Further south, Chillán climbs from 25 °C on Tuesday to 29 °C on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the Pacific Ocean keeps the coast more temperate, with coastal cities staying between 19 °C and 25 °C through the period.
