Celine Dion Announces Paris Concerts After Olympic Return & Health Battle
Céline Dion is preparing for a return to the stage with a series of concerts scheduled for this autumn in Paris, marking her first live performances since her appearance at the opening of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The Canadian singer delivered a performance of Edith Piaf’s “L’hymne à l’amour” from the balcony of the Eiffel Tower in July 2024, her first public performance since 2022. The performance, described as one of the most unforgettable moments of the Games, signaled a potential return to performing for the artist who has been battling health challenges.
According to reports, Dion is slated to perform at the Paris La Défense Arena starting in September, with concerts planned over several weeks. The announcement was preceded by the appearance of posters throughout Paris featuring artwork referencing some of her most well-known songs, including “The Power Of Love” and “My Heart Will Proceed On.”
Dion publicly disclosed in 2022 that she is living with Stiff Person Syndrome, a rare neurological disorder characterized by severe and unpredictable muscle spasms. The condition led to the cancellation of her Courage World Tour in 2020, initially due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and subsequently due to her health concerns. The upcoming concerts are reportedly being scheduled at a reduced pace to allow for adequate rest between performances, acknowledging the unpredictable nature of her condition and its potential response to emotional or physical exertion.
Prior to her Olympic appearance, Dion made sporadic public appearances, including at concerts featuring artists such as Paul McCartney, and Coldplay. However, these were not formal returns to a consistent performance schedule. The Paris concerts would represent her first official residency in over six years.
The artist, 57, has not officially confirmed the concert series, and her team has yet to release an official statement regarding the planned performances at the Paris La Défense Arena, which has a capacity of approximately 40,000 spectators.
