Celebrity Chefs: The Realities of Restaurant Launches

February 19, 2026 Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor Entertainment

A new dining concept, Wonder, backed by billionaire Marc Lore, is rapidly expanding throughout the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area, bringing together celebrity chef-driven restaurants under one roof and offering a unique delivery service. The first flagship location opened in Washington, D.C. In June 2025, with six additional locations planned for the region, including one in Arlington, Virginia.

Wonder distinguishes itself by offering dishes from a diverse roster of acclaimed chefs, including Bobby Flay, José Andrés, Nancy Silverton, and Marcus Samuelsson. The food hall also features menus from established restaurants like Tejas Barbeque, SriPraPhai, Di Fara Pizza, and Fred’s Meat & Bread. Diners can order combinations of dishes from these various culinary offerings in a single order, for in-house dining, pickup, or delivery.

Unlike conventional food delivery services, Wonder controls the entire process, from menu development and ingredient sourcing to food preparation, and delivery. The company employs its own couriers, promising delivery times of under 30 minutes. This vertically integrated approach aims to provide a consistently high-quality and personalized dining experience, according to a company release.

The expansion isn’t limited to the D.C. Area. Wonder originally launched in the Northeast and plans to operate seven locations across the DMV (D.C., Maryland, and Virginia). The Arlington location is slated for Rosslyn, alongside other sites in West End, College Park, Cleveland Park, Reston, and Franconia.

The emergence of Wonder coincides with a broader trend of celebrity chefs expanding their reach beyond traditional restaurant settings. In Phoenix, Arizona, Chef Nik Fields recently launched The Collective by Chic Chef, a dual-concept space combining a coffee shop and salad bar. Elsewhere, Celebrity Xcel’s Le Voyage by Daniel Boulud recently earned a Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star award, marking the first cruise ship restaurant to achieve this distinction.

Lore’s venture into the restaurant space builds upon his previous work with the tech startup Wonder, which initially focused on revolutionizing restaurant takeout. The food hall model represents a further evolution of this concept, offering a more comprehensive and integrated dining experience.
