Celebrities Celebrate Eid al-Fitr with Family: Photos & Stories 2024
Jakarta, Indonesia – Celebrations marking the first day of Lebaran 2026, or Idul Fitri, unfolded across Indonesia on Saturday, March 21st, with numerous public figures and musicians joining in the festivities. Even as the Indonesian government officially designated the holiday for March 21st, some communities, including a number of celebrities, observed the occasion a day earlier, on Friday, March 20th.
Director Hanung Bramantyo and his wife, Zaskia Adya Mecca, marked Idul Fitri 1447 H with a unique celebration, hosting prayers in an open field in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, adjacent to a newly constructed mosque. Bramantyo expressed initial anxieties about the event’s success, stating, “The struggle is, What we have is the first time, the first time really, it’s already keeping me up at night. The fear is that we create this and then sense really needed, that’s the main challenge. What if no one comes, after all the hard work?” These concerns were allayed as hundreds of residents gathered for the prayers.
Mecca recounted the logistical challenges of organizing the event, noting the lack of prior experience. “Things didn’t head according to plan because, honestly, we’re still learning everything. Suddenly, Syakir was already standing [to speak] and I was still arranging the rows, running with my sister like, ‘He should have given the welcoming remarks first!’ Then it just started, we were surprised. Usually, there’s a report, there’s something… but we had no report, no anything,” she said.
Television personality Indra Bekti and his family were among those who celebrated on March 20th, sharing a message on social media: “Happy Idul Fitri from our family. Please forgive our shortcomings. Hopefully next year You can feel and worship better and be given the opportunity to experience fasting and worship during Ramadan again,” according to a post on his wife’s Instagram account.
Other celebrities also shared their Lebaran experiences. Ivan Gunawan experienced an emotional celebration at a mosque he helped build in Sawangan, Depok, West Java, which now houses approximately 150 students from kindergarten through high school. Several artists chose to celebrate the holiday abroad, including Oki Setiana Dewi in Egypt, Rini Yulianti and Acha Septriasa in Sydney, Australia, Lucinta Luna in South Korea, Gita Savitri Devi in Germany, Tamara Anjani in Norway, Farah Quinn in the United States, and Pevita Pearce in Malaysia.
The differing dates for the start of Idul Fitri reflect a recurring phenomenon in Indonesia, where variations in the interpretation of the lunar calendar can lead to differing announcements of the holiday’s beginning. Despite these variations, the spirit of celebration and family togetherness remained central to the observance of Lebaran 2026.
