CBL-514 drug trial reduces visceral fat by 12.01%, pravda.ru reported

CBL-514 drug trial reduces visceral fat by 12.01%, pravda.ru reported

October 13, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

An injectable drug trial targeting deep abdominal fat reduced visceral fat volume by 12.01%, while a control group receiving placebos recorded a 5.68% increase, pravda.ru reported. The therapy, designated as CBL-514, triggers programmed cell death specifically within fat tissue without requiring surgical intervention or altering general metabolism.

Cellular Elimination Versus Surgical Extraction

Traditional procedures like liposuction rely on mechanical removal to address superficial subcutaneous layers beneath the skin. In contrast, the CBL-514 compound operates via controlled apoptosis, a biological mechanism of targeted cell death. Muscle fibers, nerves, and surrounding structures in the treated zone remain unaffected while specific adipocytes are induced to self-destruct.

The distinction carries significant weight for metabolic health. Subcutaneous fat rests safely beneath the skin, whereas visceral fat forms an active biological tissue wrapping around internal organs. Medical literature links visceral fat directly to insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes risks. The American Heart Association has previously identified this internal fat deposition as a stronger predictor of heart failure than standard body mass index measurements.

MRI Scans Confirm Fat Reduction in Clinical Trials

Phase 2 clinical trials evaluated the efficacy of the injectable treatment through rigorous magnetic resonance imaging scans.

Patients received injections directly into the lower abdomen every three weeks for up to twelve weeks. Dosages reached up to 600 milligrams, determined dynamically by the thickness of the patient’s fat layer. As the targeted fat deposits shrank, clinicians reduced the volume of subsequent administrations.

Four weeks following the final treatment session, MRI scans confirmed the 12.01% reduction in the treatment cohort. Meanwhile, participants in the placebo arm experienced a 5.68% increase in visceral fat volume, isolating the pharmacological agent as the primary driver of the reduction rather than lifestyle modifications.

Treatment Improves Health Indicators but Lacks Regulatory Approval

Beyond cosmetic adjustments to abdominal dimensions, Garvey noted broader systemic improvements among participants. Lowering visceral fat correlates with measurable shifts in blood pressure and cholesterol levels, which serve as core indicators for cardiovascular disease prevention.

Despite these findings, the therapy remains strictly within the research phase. Phase 2 trials establish initial safety and preliminary efficacy within limited patient groups, but the compound lacks full regulatory approval. Patients cannot currently request the treatment through standard clinical practice.

The data highlights the distinct health hazards posed by internal fat depots without providing an immediate intervention for individuals managing excess weight outside of structured research protocols. Long-term safety verifications and subsequent regulatory phases must conclude before the targeted fat-elimination method transitions into widespread medical use.
