Caussade Residents too Learn About Rising Tiger Mosquito Threat
CAUSSADE, Tarn-et-Garonne – Local residents have an opportunity to learn about the increasingly prevalent tiger mosquito and how to protect themselves from its potential health risks at a free awareness meeting hosted by CPIE Quercy-Garonne on Friday, October 3rd, at 6 p.m. The event will be held at the barns of the lake.
The tiger mosquito, easily identified by its black and white stripes and a distinctive white line on its head and thorax, is a daytime biter and a growing concern for public health officials. This invasive species is capable of transmitting diseases like dengue, zika, and chikungunya, posing a significant threat to the well-being of the Occitanie region’s population. The CPIE Quercy-Garonne meeting aims to equip individuals with the knowledge and practical steps needed to prevent the mosquito’s proliferation.
Funded by ARS Occitanie and coordinated by Occitanie seed in partnership with 23 environmental and lasting progress associations, the “Pik’tro” regional program seeks to raise awareness about preventative measures. The session will cover the tiger mosquito’s life cycle, effective prevention techniques, and control methods. Following a presentation, attendees will participate in a field study to identify potential mosquito breeding grounds around local cottages.
Those interested in attending are asked to register in advance by emailing cpiequercygaronne@orange.fr or calling 05 63 24 06 26. The meeting is free and open to all concerned citizens of Caussade and the surrounding area.
