Animal Welfare group Condemns Cattle competitions as Exploitation,Launches Petition
Cholet,France – the animal welfare association FUTUR is intensifying its campaign against cattle competitions, accusing sponsors like Crédit Agricole,Groupama, and crédit Mutuel of complicity in animal exploitation. The group points to documented abuses within these events, where animals are treated as commodities and subjected to suffering. This year’s competition in Cholet saw a slight decrease in animal participation – 194 animals presented compared to 280 last year – but FUTUR argues any such event is unacceptable in a society evolving towards greater respect for animal welfare.
FUTUR is demanding that financial institutions cease funding these “butchery fairs,” asserting that prioritizing profit over ethical responsibility is untenable. While acknowledging some sponsors demonstrate openness to dialogue, the association specifically criticizes Groupama for allegedly ignoring animal suffering. “To build a more caring world, we must first change our view of animals: the respect we give them has repercussions throughout society,” stated Vuk, FUTUR’s investigation manager.
The association has launched a petition calling for a permanent end to these competitions, framing them as outdated practices that fail to reflect modern values of compassion and respect.
