Cat Stevens Postpones North American Tour Due to Visa Issues
NEW YORK – Cat Stevens has postponed his planned North American tour, citing unresolved visa issues, teh singer announced via social media. The tour, which was set to begin October 2nd in Philadelphia, would have marked a notable return to extensive touring for the British singer-songwriter.
Stevens expressed his disappointment, stating, “I’m so sorry to let you all know that my North American tour has had to be postponed. It’s a frustrating situation,not least for my fans who have bought tickets and made travel plans to see me perform.” Representatives for Stevens have not yet responded to requests for comment from The Associated Press.
The tour included scheduled stops across the country throughout October, and also a postponed October 8th performance in Toronto, Canada. The announcement impacts fans who had anticipated an intimate “portal” into Stevens’ universe, featuring conversations about his memoir and acoustic performances of his iconic songs.
Stevens rose to fame in the 1960s before pausing his music career for two decades after converting to Islam in the late 1970s. He returned to secular music in the 2000s and completed a six-city North American tour in 2014.
