savannah,GA – U.S. Representative Earl “Buddy” Carter (R-GA) has donated 43 days of his congressional salary too Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia, covering the duration of the recent federal government shutdown. The donation directly supports the food bankS efforts to combat hunger in the region, particularly as it assisted families impacted by disruptions to SNAP, WIC, and other government services during the shutdown.
Representative Carter previously requested his pay be withheld throughout the shutdown period, recognizing the hardship faced by federal employees, service members, and families reliant on government assistance programs. Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia stepped up to provide critical support during this time, and Carter’s donation will help sustain their operations through the holiday season and beyond.
“Second Harvest helped many Georgians through the uncertainty of the shutdown; though, its impact has been felt in our area for many years, and countless families have been touched by its service and generosity,” said Rep. Carter.”This donation will help ensure it and its volunteers can continue their great work through the holiday season, and I thank Second Harvest for being a valuable partner in Coastal Georgia.”
Dan Umbel, President of the Board of Directors for Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia, expressed gratitude for the contribution. “We are deeply grateful to Rep. Earl ‘Buddy’ Carter for his gracious donation,” Umbel stated. “At a time when many families are facing heightened need, Rep. Carter’s support strengthens our ability to fight hunger across our region and reflects a true commitment to the well-being of every neighbor we serve.”
