Carlos Zambrano: Controversies, Alianza Lima Exit & Abuse Allegations

February 14, 2026 Alex Carter - Sports Editor Sport

Carlos Zambrano, a Peruvian international footballer, has officially terminated his contract with Alianza Lima following allegations of sexual assault during the club’s pre-season training camp in Uruguay, multiple sources confirmed on February 11, 2026. The agreement to finish his contract comes after weeks of negotiations and follows the earlier departures of teammates Miguel Trauco and Sergio Peña, who are also implicated in the same allegations.

The accusations stem from an incident reportedly occurring on January 18, 2026, in a Montevideo hotel room, where a 22-year-old Argentine woman alleges she was sexually assaulted by Zambrano, Trauco, and Peña. The woman sought medical attention in San Isidro, Argentina, and subsequently filed a formal criminal complaint on January 21, 2026, at Muñiz Hospital in Buenos Aires, according to reports. The case is currently being processed in National Criminal and Correctional Court No. 14, with medical examinations and seized clothing serving as evidence.

Alianza Lima removed the players from the professional squad immediately after the allegations surfaced. While Zambrano’s legal team initially presented obstacles to reaching a contract termination agreement, the club ultimately confirmed his departure. “The Club Alianza Lima informs its fans and the public that the footballer Carlos Zambrano has officially ceased to belong to our institution after an agreement was reached between both parties,” the club stated.

Despite the gravity of the accusations, Peruvian sports journalist Eddie Fleischman reported that Zambrano actively sought to remain with Alianza Lima. “Zambrano wanted to stay, he clung to wanting to stay at Alianza. They told him ‘no way’,” Fleischman said. He also criticized Zambrano’s apparent lack of understanding regarding the seriousness of the allegations.

Financial details of the contract termination reveal that Alianza Lima will assume payment of between 40 and 50 percent of the agreed-upon amount to facilitate Zambrano’s departure, according to journalist Gabriel Pacheco. The financial settlement was finalized on February 11, 2026, resolving the contractual issues between the club and the player.

The case involving Zambrano, Trauco, and Peña has been referred to Uruguayan authorities for further investigation, according to the Peruvian news agency ANDINA. This development indicates a potential shift in jurisdiction as the legal proceedings continue.
