Carlos Alcaraz: Indian Wells Preview, Draw & Title Contender

by Alex Carter - Sports Editor

Carlos Alcaraz enters the 2026 BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells with a 30-match winning streak on outdoor hard courts, a run of form that began after a second-round upset loss to David Goffin at the 2025 Miami Masters 1000. The world No. 1 will face a challenging opening test at the tournament, according to the ATP Tour.

The Spaniard’s current form has drawn comparisons to Roger Federer, with Alcaraz now within reach of matching Federer’s record of 51 consecutive victories on outdoor hard courts, achieved during the 2005 and 2006 seasons. To surpass Federer, Alcaraz will need to successfully defend his titles in Indian Wells and Cincinnati, win the Miami Open, and reach at least the quarterfinals of the US Open.

Alcaraz has already secured victories at Indian Wells in both 2023 and 2024. Success in Indian Wells and Miami would see him achieve the ‘Sunshine Swing’ double, a feat Federer also accomplished. The ATP Tour reports that Alcaraz will be aiming to carve out more history at the BNP Paribas Open.

The challenge ahead is described as “colossal,” requiring a sustained period of success throughout the spring and summer months. Alcaraz’s recent titles include Cincinnati, the US Open, Tokyo, the Australian Open, and Doha, demonstrating his dominance across multiple hard court events.
