Carjacking Foiled: Driver Uses Spirit Level in Melbourne | News
Two truck drivers fought off an attempted carjacking at a service station in Scoresby, a suburb in Melbourne’s east, on Sunday, March 22, 2026. The drivers, identified as being of Indian origin, were confronted by two men who allegedly demanded the keys to their truck, and subjected them to racial abuse, according to witnesses.
Footage of the incident, captured by bystanders and circulating online, shows a physical altercation erupting between the drivers and the would-be carjackers. One of the delivery drivers initially resisted alone, before being joined by a coworker. During the struggle, the drivers reportedly used a spirit level as a weapon against their attackers.
Police responded to the scene but the alleged carjackers fled in a red Subaru travelling southbound on EastLink. No serious injuries were reported in the incident, according to Victoria Police.
Witnesses at the scene described a chaotic scene, with one bystander sharing video on social media stating the driver was on a lunch break when approached. The incident occurred in the carpark of the service station.
The attempted carjacking comes after a separate incident in Melbourne, Florida, in October 2025, where a man allegedly carjacked a vehicle with passengers inside, battered the driver, and attempted to hijack multiple other vehicles before being apprehended by Brevard County Sheriff’s deputies. That incident involved a dramatic pursuit and a crash near I-95 and North Wickham Road.
Authorities have not yet released information regarding any arrests made in connection with the Scoresby carjacking. Victoria Police are continuing their investigation and have not provided further details on the suspects or their motives.
