Car in Water in Doezum: Injuries Reported – Netherlands News
A car ended up in a canal in Doezum, Groningen province, on Saturday, resulting in two injuries, one of them serious, according to reports from Dutch news outlets. The incident occurred on the Kaleweg in Doezum.
Emergency services responded to the scene after receiving reports of the vehicle in the water. Details regarding the circumstances leading to the car entering the canal remain unclear. Both occupants of the vehicle were extracted and transported to a hospital for treatment. The severity of the injuries suggests a potentially complex rescue operation.
The incident coincided with a separate incident at the TT Circuit Assen, where a motorcyclist was injured. The TT Circuit Assen, often called the “Cathedral of Speed,” was hosting track day events for both automobiles and motorcycles on Saturday, March 21st, and Sunday, March 22nd, 2026. A BMW Racing Cup event is scheduled for March 23rd and 24th.
The TT Circuit Assen, established in 1955, has a capacity of 110,000 spectators and is a prominent venue for motorcycle racing, including the Dutch TT. The circuit features multiple configurations, including a 4.542-kilometer motorcycle circuit and a 4.555-kilometer Grand Prix circuit. The track is currently hosting various training sessions and events leading up to the Motul TT Assen scheduled for June 26-28, 2026.
Authorities have not yet released information regarding the identities of those involved in either the Doezum incident or the injury at the TT Circuit Assen. Further updates are expected as investigations proceed and more information becomes available from emergency responders.
